What do my teachers say?
Xaver participates well in class and enjoys taking part in classroom discussions. It’s been a pleasure to see Xaver grow both academically and personally.
WRITING:

Xaver has continued to show progress as a writer. He has a positive attitude about writing and his stamina has improved. Xaver greatly benefits from discussing his ideas before getting started on the writing task. During drafting, Xaver should not be so concerned about his work being perfect. It is through the writing process that his ideas will come together. With on-going support, he is crafting fiction texts that are more structured and focused. Xaver demonstrated his understanding of fantasy by writing stories with descriptive settings, characters with heroic qualities, and plots with climatic and magical twists. Xaver revises his writing for specific writing traits (e.g. word choice, sentence fluency) and edits his work for punctuation and spelling with some independence.
WRITING:

Xaver is learning to use strategies to help generate good ideas for writing and is becoming more independent when writing the first draft. Most high frequency words are spelled correctly, and Xaver is starting to recognize and correct some misspellings with assistance. His poems are full of creative pictures.
READING:

Xaver has shown great improvement in his reading skills, particularly at the word reading level. Xaver significantly improved decoding skills which are contributing to his overall fluency. He is expanding his knowledge of different genres (e.g., fantasy and nonfiction) and is beginning to use a variety of resources to gather and locate information (e.g., articles, nonfiction books, Internet). Xaver generates thoughtful oral responses during small-group literature discussions. His reading stamina is improving a lot.
LIFE SKILLS:

Xaver has a happy, positive and energetic disposition; therefore he is a pleasure to have in class. He is a hardworking student and puts forth great efforts to do well. He is very respectful and considerate towards his classmates. Xaver enjoys participating in class discussions by sharing about what he is thinking.
ART:

Xaver’s art skills consistently exceeded grade level expectations. He demonstrated an exemplary understanding and independent application of the introduced concepts, media and techniques. He used the Elements of Art and Principles of Design with creativity and craftsmanship that surpassed grade level art standards. He consistently engaged with focus and enthusiasm and completed all art assignments independently with exceptional effort and workmanship.

MUSIC:

Xaver is very talented and participates in each music class with best efforts! Singing – reinforcing and moving forward with vocal skills of pitch accuracy, using the voice in a healthy way, increasing repertoire, singing in harmony through rounds and partner songs, preparing for winter, spring and summer concerts. Playing instruments – metallophones, xylophones, glockenspiels, temple blocks, and various unpitched percussion for Chinese New Year song; drums, gongs and cymbals for Chinese Lion Dance rhythms.
SOCIAL STUDIES:

After starting a unit on careers, Xaver has a good understanding of choices people have to make about the types of jobs they do. He understands that individuals make decisions about the work they do based on factors such as education, skills and interests.
COMPUTERS:

Xaver concentrated well on learning keyboarding skills using the programm „Typing Pal“.
GERMAN:

Xaver is a motivated and diligent student, who shows a very serious and positive attitude. His oral and written work are both of a good standard and he is always well prepared for class.
